Markets — Asia Pacific

The tightest tolerances
we work to.

A Japanese ohaka set, an Australian cemetery's rule sheet and a Singapore columbarium all judge stone on fit rather than on price. Sets come off one block run, sizes are held to the sheet, and nothing ships before it has been measured.

Twelve markets

Memorial masons, stone processors, fabricators and contractors. What each usually orders is listed beside it.

Four buying patterns,
one region.

Asia Pacific covers the most exacting memorial trade in the world and some of the largest raw-material buyers. They are not quoted the same way.

Japan & KoreaSets, not piecesAn ohaka is a set — upright, tiers, vases, basin and lantern — and every part must come off the same block run. Tolerances here are the tightest we work to.
Australia & New ZealandCemetery rulesCouncils publish permitted sizes and foundation detail, and lawn sections often allow plaques only. The rule sheet decides the product.
Southeast AsiaMixedColumbaria and memorial work for temples, cemeteries and public realm projects, with samples approved before the blocks are reserved.
Processing marketsBlocks & slabsVietnam, Thailand and southern China buy raw material and cut it themselves. Here the order is block size, shade and freedom from cracks.

For Japanese and Korean work, send the full set list, not a single piece. Sao-ishi, tiers, vases, basin and lantern are cut together from one run — ordered separately, they will not match, and on these sets the difference is obvious.

Five lines,
from raw block to finished set.

Processors buy at the start of the chain and memorial masons at the end. Both come off the same quarry runs.

Eight steps,
and a measured report.

On this market the inspection stage carries more weight than anywhere else — dimensions and shade are recorded piece by piece before crating.

Set integrityEvery piece of a set cut from one block run and packed together — a matching vase ordered a year later is never quite the same stone.
Cemetery rulesAustralian and New Zealand councils publish permitted sizes and foundations. Send the sheet and the drawing comes back inside it.
LetteringLatin script, kanji and hangul from your own artwork as vector files, proofed at full size before cutting.
Blocks & slabsFor processors: block size, shade and freedom from cracks confirmed at the quarry face before loading.
InspectionMeasured reports with photographs, or third-party inspection at the works — usual on this market, not an exception.
PackingFumigated crates to ISPM 15, sets crated together, faces boarded and arrises taped for the road leg.
