Russia & CIS — Orthodox crosses

Crosses cut from
one piece of granite.

Eight-pointed, six-pointed and Latin crosses for cemeteries, church grounds and memorial complexes. Cut whole wherever the section allows it — a cross assembled from pieces shows its joints within a few winters.

The eight points,
and why they matter.

Get a bar length or the foot angle wrong and the cross stops reading as Orthodox. These are the dimensions we confirm with you before cutting.

  • TitulusThe short upper bar. Its length is usually set against the main bar rather than the height — send the ratio your customer expects.
  • Main barWidth and thickness decide how the cross stands in wind and how deeply the crucifix can be carved.
  • Foot bar angleTraditionally slanted, raised on the viewer's left. We cut whatever angle your drawing states and hold it across a repeat order.
  • Arris and radiusSharp arris or softened edge — the choice changes how light catches the cross from a distance.
  • One piece or assembledCut whole where the block allows. Where it does not, joints are dowelled and hidden on the back face.

Drawing to crate,
arms boxed separately.

A cross is mostly edges, and edges are what break in transit. The last stage matters as much as the carving.

SizesGrave crosses commonly 900–1500 mm tall; church and memorial crosses larger, on stepped pedestals. Section thickness is quoted with the height — a tall thin cross is a liability outdoors.
CarvingCrucifix in relief, icon panels, spear and sponge, vine and rope ornament — cut by our own carvers to your sheet.
LetteringИС ХС НИКА, Cyrillic names and dates, engraved or sandblasted, painted or gilded to your finish schedule.
MountingDowelled into a base or pedestal, stainless pins supplied. Wall crosses drilled and rebated for concealed anchors.
Matching setCross, base, kerbs and vase held to one block run so the whole plot stays in shade.
PackingArms boarded individually, corners boxed, the crate built for the road leg after the port.

Send the proportions,
we will cut to them.
